Mars Map Maker: User Empowerment in Meta Data and Data Submission
Standardization of data has plagued organizations internally and externally since the advent of the relational database. Our tool Mars Map Maker (MMM) presents a solution to the issue with a unique approach. In our case, this tool is being used in concert with MARS (Middleware for Assisting the Registration of Samples) to allow unique geological organizations to register their own datum points to the international SESAR (System for Earth Sample Registration) catalog to attain a globally unique id number referred to as an IGSN (International GeoSample Number). Our tool MMM creates more dynamic workflows for scientists and data aggregators through a web interface. This application allows users to upload a sample of their data collection and then allows users to also specify how they want to map their data to SESAR in terms of metadata, values, and format. This results in a customized script that is then used in conjunction with the users native data to register en masse their own samples to SESAR.
